2. Events from 30th October to 1st November 2008

On October 30,
As first day in 4th PVS 2008 event, were began by the opening addresses given by Dr. Husein Alkil A, director of KIM-LIPI and Mrs. Renanta Hayu K, organizing chair of the workshop.

Then proceed by countries report from participant.Country reports on pressure and vacuum standards were presented by 9 countries; Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, New Zealand, Taiwan and India.

Status report of each country:
a. Establishment of Pressure Standard Using Pressure Balance at KIM-LIPI by Mr. Rudi
b. County Report of NMC – A*STAR by Mr. Wu Jian
c. Activities at KRISS Pressure Laboratory by Dr. S.Y.Woo
d. The Situation of Pressure and Vacuum Metrology in China by Ms. Yu Hongyan
e. Country Report of NMIJ – AIST, Japan by Dr. H Akimichi
f. Laboratory Report on Pressure, Vacuum Laboratories NIMT by Mr. Tawat Changpan
g. MSL Pressure Standard by Mr. Mark Fitzgerald
h. Current Status of Pressure and Vacuum Laboratories at Taiwan by Mr. Chen-Chuan Hung
i. Country report of Pressure and Vacuum Standards of NPLI (2006 – 2008) by Dr. A. K. Bandyopadhyay

After reporting country activities, we proceed to open discussion concerning issues on each NMI’s as closing activities for day one. Based on the discussions, several conclusions were made. One of them is understanding about the need of research and development for traceability of medical instrument that related to pressure measurement, As some of participating country have done, KRISS for example.

On October 31,
Technical reports regarding primary standards, various calibration methods, analysis of national standards, international comparisons, domestic activities, etc., were presented by several countries and discussed.

In the morning, activities began with open Lecturer given by Dr. A. K. Bandyopadhyay, Chairman of TCM/APMP with the tittles Activities of Pressure and Vacuum Standards in CCM WG and their impacts to TCM/APMP.

Activities then proceed by the technical paper from participant, which divided into III technical session.

Technical Session I,
a. Calculation of Effective Area and Uncertainty for a Dimensionally Characterized 50mm Piston-Cylinder used as a Primary Reference for Pressure by Mr. M.Girald
b. A Static Expansion System in NMIJ by Dr. Hitoshi AKIMICHI
c. A Continuous Expansion Vacuum Standard Developed at the National Metrology Centre, Singapore by Mr. Wu Jian
d. Performance Of Differential Pressure Standard At KRISS by Dr. Sam-yong Woo

Technical Session II,
e. Controlled Clearance Measurements On The MSL 280 MPa Pressure Balance by Mr. M P Fitzgerald
f. A New Pressure Balance with an “on-board” Electronic Error Compensation Error System by Dr. M. Caravaggio
g. Study of Temperature Gradient Effect While Measuring the Piston-Cylinder Unit Temperature during using the Industrial Pressure Balances by Mr. Tawat Changpan
h. Characterization Experiments For A New Controlled-Clearance Pressure Balance by Dr. Hiroaki KAJIKAWA

Technical Session III,
i. Influence of Form on Gas-Operated Pressure Balances at Reference Standards for Pressures below 10 kPa by Dr. Chris Sutton
j. Finite Element Calculation Method (FEM) For The Characterization Of A Pneumatic Piston Gauge Up To 8 MPa by Dr. A K Bandyopadhyay
k. Draft Report Of APMP.M.P-K6.1 Pneumatic Key Comparison From 20 kPa To 105 kPa In Gauge Mode by Mr. Chen-Chuan Hung
l. Balancing Mass Simulation Program for Determination Pressure Equilibrium in Pressure Balance Calibration by Mr. Gigin Ginanjar

On second day open discussion, participants proposed next workshop and meeting would be held at the NIMT in Thailand and Mr. Tawat as the participant from NIMT very pleased to be the organizing committee of the next “5th Pressure and Vacuum Symposium 2010” and informally invited all of participant to taking part on that symposium. However this proposal will be determined certainly after finishing APMP General Assembly and formal proposal will send directly to the director of NIMT by Dr. A. K. Bandyopadhyay.

In the evening, a dinner was held to thank the attendees due to their participation on the 4th Pressure and Vacuum Symposium 2008 which held in Indonesia host by KIM-LIPI. At the same time, certificate and CD containing all paper and presentation material given by committee to the participant. All had a quite enjoyable and beneficial time.

On November 1
As closing activities, on the last day of 4th PVS 2008 event, technical tours of the MRQ (Mass Related Quantity) laboratories in KIM-LIPI were conducted in the morning. In the afternoon, continued by Industrial visit to YAMAMOTO KEIKI Indonesia YKI, as the manufacturer of Pressure Gauge, to see the detail process of pressure gauge manufacturing.

In YAMAMOTO KEIKI Indonesia, the participants were introducing to many traditional food of Indonesia.

All participants had a joyful and valuable time.
